Friday Fics Fix - Why So Sirius?

(Apologies for the title-pun. Couldn't resist 😅)

If there's one fandom that always goes above and beyond, it's the Potterheads.

Yes, those fans of Harry Potter can always be counted on to take even the smallest of details from the books and run with them - to the extent that there are now fully-established fandoms within the fandom.

(Is that like fandom-ception or something?! So much meta.)

Quick warning: this post may contain some very mild Harry Potter spoilers.

One of the main sub-fandoms within this amazing group of like-minded fellow-nerds is the Marauders fandom (also known as the Marauders-Era fandom.)

To fill you all in: the Marauders are Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew - the friendship-group which created the Marauder's Map.

The amount of fanfiction, fan art, fan videos, etc. available online surrounding this group of four boys is truly amazing - and shows how much texture fans can give a world when left to their own devices!

This week's fic focuses mainly on Sirius Black, his crummy family, and the home he found with his friends.

I think what really stands out in this one is Sirius getting used to the idea that showing emotion doesn't make you weak, even if you're a boy.

See? I'm not the only one who couldn't resist this pun!!!

So many of these harmful ideas about gender roles have persisted into the modern age, that whenever I see something like this - something that says boys CAN cry, dammit! - I have to share it!

Word of warning though: Sirius' family are definitely emotionally abusive in this fic, so be careful while reading my dearest nerdlets!

And just to make this fic even more awesome, there's a little bit of m/m romance too! 😊

So, this week's fic is:

It's okay to cry by Eversincefiveboys

What do you think my nerdlets? Have you read any other Marauders-Era fanfiction?

Enjoy, and I'll be back with more fanfiction next week!

    1. Ha, lurking totally counts! If you wanna be in a fandom, then you're in a fandom! Simple. :) I don't read all that much Marauders - but I do read a butt-load of general fanfic ;)

  3. unfortunately I haven't read any other Marauders-Era fanfiction! and I should because I love Sirius and yes imposed gender roles are very awful the subtle ones even worse than the open like dressing girls in white and pink with lotsa of lace and stuff so they cannot go and play like the boys.

    1. White? People dress girls in white more than they dress boys in white? :/ I'd never noticed that! *conspiracy intensifies* ;)

    2. Oh I been reading lotsa of feminist literature these last days (preparing reviews and discussion post for march to celebrate national women’s history month) and I AM SEETHING with the things these books remind me we women are subject too. The “subtle” ones make me even more upset

  4. I enjoyed this fan fic. I can totally see Lupin as gay even though it's not cannon. When I read the Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvater I found that the 4 boys really reminded me of the Marauders, they had the same vibe.
