Tell Me Something Tuesday: What Are Your Favourite Beach Reads?

2nd June 2026 - What are your favourite beach reads?

I don’t actually read on the beach.

Part of that is because I don’t go to the beach all that much — especially not in the summer, when it’s hot.

I hate heat. Heat = bad. I will not be hearing other opinions on this.

But when I do go to the beach, I don’t really sit around. 

I mean… I did when I was a kid, but that was on account of I was making sandcastles. Since then I’m more of a beach-walker than a beach-sitter, you get me?

— You might still get sand in your shoes that way, but it doesn’t get anywhere else! Lol.

BUT — I do read in the garden. I am much more of a ‘garden-bench reader’ than a beach reader.

So, I shall interpret this question as ‘what is your favourite garden-bench read?’

(Because I can break any prompt — even the mundane ones. Lol.)

When I’m reading in the garden, I usually just read whatever I’d normally be reading — except that what I read depends a little bit on which bench I want to read on.

…Because the one set of benches is a ‘sit somewhat upright’ type of sitting experience, and the other set are a ‘sprawl out however you like’ kind of shape, so I lie down a lot more.

That means if I’m aiming to read a door-stopper book (aka a book with over 1000 pages,) or a book with heavy hardcovers (…or pointy hardcovers,) then I’d usually go for the lying-out bench so that I can rest the physical book on the bench itself, instead of having to hold it for the entire time I’m reading.

That said, sometimes I move around because of shade or how much noise the neighbours are making.

There’s no real preference for genre or author or whatever just because I’m sitting outside — I’m not entirely sure why people do that, tbh *shrugs*

So, I basically just read whatever the hell I want to read, whenever the hell I want to read it. Rules for life, I guess! (Lol.)
