This week's fic made me metaphorically punch the air. Because dudes - yes!
This fic is one of those which you don't need to be all that familiar with the fandom itself to enjoy - which is good because it's from the re-booted MacGyver fandom, which is kind of smaller than most fandoms.
For those who don't know: there was a show called MacGyver back in the day (i.e. the 1980s) starring Richard Dean Anderson sporting some very questionable hair.
Due to the fact that I wasn't born back then, I didn't watch this version.
The more recent version started in 2016 (well, I'm glad something good came outta that year!) and stars Lucas Till, who was also Havoc in X-Men: First-Class.*
It's a lot of fun and not too many brain cells are required to watch it - guns, explosions, etc., you know the deal! Lol.
*I know these things because I am unquestionably a nerd.
So, to read this fic, there is only one thing you gotta know:
it's based around a covert ops team (so whichever side of spy/soldier you feel like imagining.)
What's so great about this fic then?
It's about migraines.
I know, I know, why do I think that that's a good thing? Because I f**king get migraines, though not a lot recently (please, dear mysterious migraine force, let that continue for as long as possible!)
Seeing a tough covert ops guy being downed by migraines? F**k yeah! I'm totally here for this!!!
Because migraines are serious f**king pain coming at you - they mess up all your senses, make you feel really sick, and can make it really difficult to walk, think, or do literally ANYTHING.
The pain is incredible. And then people are like, 'it's just a headache!' No. If you've had one, you know that's not true.
So I loved this fic - because it's so realistic!
The only thing I would say is that most migraine sufferers have migraine-hangovers for a day or two afterwards and this fic didn't seem aware of that.
But then, a lot of people don't get that, so *shrugs* whatever!
I have no idea about the statements regarding the rate of migraines in forces veterans - they could be true or 100% c**h for all I know.
(And apparently I feel the need to censor myself when I swear in Welsh as well as English, good to know.)
But I can totally see that happening - one of the major migraine triggers is stress, and you certainly get a lot of that in the army etc.
So, this week's amazing fic is:
