Micropoetry - July 2018

I swear to God the heat is messing with my Micropoetry.

Again, this month, I've only written two pieces of Micropoetry... they're also a little weird. Like, weirder than usual! 😅

The second one in particular isn't for people who don't like creepy stuff.

Just a heads up!

If you're using a screen-reader, the poetry is in the alt-text of the images, with / marks showing the line breaks.

16th July // What makes you think / it was / My / Heart / You / Broke. / There are other / Hearts than mine. Other / Hearts / Were / on the line. I can / Defend / Those / Too. Especially when / it comes / to you.

dividing line

24th July /// The Wych Elm's empty./ And no-one can remember /Just where they buried Bella - / Girl without a history / Surrounded in mystery, / Resting somewhere / No-one knows where. / Cos no-one can remember /Just where they buried Bella / Or if she's buried at all.

...I actually have some context to give you for this second one.

I wanted you to read the poem before I gave you the context, because some of you might not want it (it's spoopy,) some of you may already know what I'm talking about (in which case, pat yourselves on the back,) and some of you may want to compare your reactions to it before and after knowing what inspired it.

This is spooky af, btw, so if you don't want to hear about true crime, murder, occultism, etc., then skip ahead to the end of the post.

Because I spend way too much time on YouTube, I also watch a bunch of spooky videos.

These videos usually freak me out more than actual creepy sh** going on around me. #TrueStory.

(No really, ghosts throw stuff and I'm fine, but if I watch a horror film alone I jump at every noise for the next several hours. #MyLife)

The video where I heard about Bella in the Wych Elm was actually one on Shane Dawson's channel, as part of the WTF 5 series that YouTuber Destery/CapnDesDes does for Shane's* channel.

*UPDATE 3rd July 2020 - Given recent videos I've seen of Shane sexualising children, amongst other offensive stuff, I'm not placing him in an aspirational role any more. I'm not supporting him any more.

I've embedded this so that it starts at the bit with Bella in the Wych Elm (hopefully - if my tech skills are working, if not, skip to about 5.38,) but obviously if you wanna watch the rest of the video you can do that too.

THE VIDEO DEALS WITH LOTS OF CREEPY AND MESSED UP STUFF, OK? Ok.

Warning: photographs of human remains, mild flashing images

Here's the Wikipedia page if you prefer to read about it - same spookiness and messed-up stuff warnings apply, including photographs of remains.

...and the whole story of Bella sort of got stuck in my head.

So I started looking at other websites, etc., which discussed Bella, and realised that no-one actually knows where she's buried, because the records have been lost.

And that... kind of got to me.

Like, no-one could be bothered to keep track of her?! No-one cared enough to do that?! Isn't what happened to her, and the fact that no-one knew who she was, enough?!

I don't care if she was a witch, a spy, a sex worker,* or something else entirely.

To lose track of her body when you've neither identified her or found her killer... just feels wrong.

*All of these are legit. theories about her btw, I haven't just come up with random unrelated back-stories.

So this creepy-a** story was stuck in my head, and my anger over the lack of respect shown to her was growing... and I just kind of... wrote this.

I don't know, honestly. I felt bad for Bella, ok? But then the poem turned out creepier than I intended 😅

So, hopefully I haven't scarred you all for life. If you like my poetry and think it's content worthy of payment, you can buy me a coffee here.

So what do you think of July's Micropoetry? Had you heard of Bella in the Wych Elm before? Talk to me! 👍💬

  1. I have never heard of that story before! Although I love Shane Dawson I do tend to stay away from his more creepy stuff but this story seems very interesting! I loved your poem :)

  2. Not heard about Bella in the Wych elm. Someone should create a novel around this mystery. I think it would be interesting to see what people's theories are.

Great job on the first micro poetry! I liked that one the best. :)

    1. It wouldn't surprise me if someone has, I'll have to do some investimagating (i.e. investigating,) and see if anyone has.

Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it! :)

  3. I'd never heard of that story. It does sound creepy! (And horrible that they don't know what happened to her remains.)
