'Comics Wrap-Up' with heart symbols in speech bubbles

It's Thursday, I'm still in local Lockdown, moving into Welsh national Lockdown tomorrow evening... let's get some comics!

Other Stuff

Because 2020 is... pretty effing bizarre, to be perfectly honest, we have a situation where prominent MCU stars are defending Chris Pratt's record of doing sh**ty things because...

*checks notes*

...people say that he's the 4th most popular Chris in Hollywood.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of criticising people's looks - as people were doing here - as a means of ranking people, but it wasn't the only factor.

Pratt's reputation for doing dodgy sh** means that he's often rightly criticised for being, well, a prat(t).

I love Guardians of the Galaxy, but Pratt can be pretty problematic. #JustSaying.

Which... when you consider that people like Robert Downey Junior, Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana, never spoke up in support of Brie Larson, Tessa Thompson, Zendaya, Anthony Mackie, etc. when they were facing prejudice and harrassment....

It's not a good look.

Like, I love RDJ and Mark Ruffalo, but... no. Just no. Smh.

  1. I have a lot of opinions on the Chris Pratt situation. I think he is a really shitty person who has a lot of ideals that need to be taken into account when people decide whether or not to be fans of him. Like you, I also love Guardians but I do think we cannot ignore the harmful things that Pratt believes in. I also agree that RDJ and Ruffalo really should have reconsidered defending him, especially given the abuse that WOC in the MCU had to endure alone.

All of these things being said, I think people are putting a little bit too much energy in hating on Pratt rather than in actual activist work. The "who's the best Chris" conversation has been going on for years, and people have said that Pratt is "the worst Chris" due to his beliefs for years as well. We know this already, and unfortunately, he probably will never change his opinions. So why are we wasting our time in a twitter battle discussing how shitty he is? While I don't agree at all with Ruffalo defending him, I do agree with one thing that Ruffalo said which was that all of this drama is a distraction from the real issues at hand. I just overall don't think that exclaiming over and over again that Pratt is the worst Chris will get anywhere. Focus on supporting the WOC in the MCU instead.

    1. The thing is that, overall (there'll always be some people taking things too seriously,) people were treating it as a silly little Twitter thing 'til Ruffalo et al. got involved.

It just seems like they escalated things to protect someone who didn't really need protecting, even if he *wasn't* problematic - and that's disappointing. <3

    2. ...by which I mean that even if he wasn't problematic, which he is, he still wouldn't need defending because it was all pretty inconsequential.

(I suddenly panicked that that wasn't clear! Lol.)

    3. That makes sense! White, cis-gendered straight men do not ever need anyone to defend them, because the institutions that they themselves put in place will always protect them no matter what. Damn, I always thought Mark Ruffalo was a great human being. But this... hurts.

    4. I mean, if Pratt was convicted for a crime he didn't commit, or something equally drastic, then I'd get it, but 'some people don't like my choices' doesn't really cut it to me.

I guess we all have blinkers on to an extent when it comes to our friends. Still disappointing though.
