Comics Wrap-Up - Might Not Help, But Still, It Couldn't Hurt

'Comics Wrap-Up' with lined-notebook-style background and speech bubbles containing heart symbols

It's Thursday, we're still here, this is Dora Reads, so let's get some comics-y superhero-y goodness!

Other Stuff

Want some background on awesome superhero America Chavez before she appears in the new Dr Strange film?

Marvel's got you covered with this quick explainer of all this Queer Latina badass' comics exploits (which are suitably comic-book-y, so expect things to get weird!)

Warning: comics SPOILERS, mild flashing images, child abuse/medical experimentation, trauma-related amnesia, grief and bereavement, family issues, general violence

dividing line

Speaking of Queer superheroes, DC anti-hero Peacemaker is Bisexual in his self-titled TV show.

I know nothing of Peacemaker outside of The Suicide Squad movie, I'm not even sure his TV show is available in the UK, so I have no idea if this rep. is good, bad, or indifferent.

I love John Cena, and Peacemaker in The Suicid Squad film worked uber-well as a narrative device/metaphor for all the worst ways the USA interacts with the rest of the world...

...but I'm not sure I could handle watching an entire series of him, even if it is available here, tbh. 😅

Still, let me know how the rep. is if you have any insights!

dividing line
And on the subject of rep., Rebecca Radillo @ Comic Book Resources talks about concerns surrounding Moon Knight, and Marc Spector's Jewish identity.

Will Disney and the MCU (Marvel movies) allow his Jewishness to be part of his character? Will they erase it, as they've done before? Is it right for a non-Jewish actor to play Moon Knight?

These are questions I don't have the answer to - some will be answerable once the show starts, some won't - but they're questions that should be asked, all the same.

Are you an America Chavez fan?

Have you seen Peacemaker?

  1. I have never engaged with any Dr Strange media before but I guess I'm going to have to if America Chavez and Professor X are both going to make an appearance. SIGH. Isn't it always the way with the MCU? Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in!

    1. Ha, I've never thought I'm out (it got close with the Steve decision in Endgame, I grant you,) so I'll take your word on that ;)

  2. I watched The Suicide Squad recently for my superhero class, that was my first interaction with Peacemaker but I agree, his character was fascinating! I hope the bisexual rep in the show is good.

    1. I like to think of him as like the *realistic* Captain America - like Steve Rogers is the American Dream, Peacemaker is the American reality. Although... I very possibly am being harsh to the USA and/or Peacemaker in that!
