Month in Review(s) - January 2018

January felt like a month which put a rocket to my secret* blogging powers.

woman reading, sitting on a big '2018'

I don't know why, but I actually really liked the posts I wrote this month! And I'm (finally) beginning to get a handle on the whole 'juggling work, life, blogging, and miscellaneous other stuff' thing.

That said, I've probably just jinxed myself for the year ahead. My life tends to resemble an episode of Milo Murphy's Law sometimes 😅

*Of course my blogging powers are secret. I'm an international woman of mystery, don'tcha know? ;) (And no, announcing them to the entire internet doesn't make them any less secret. Because I said so.)

I've seen a lot of my fellow bloggers get struck by the dreaded 'blog envy' this January.

If any of you are reading this, you rock OK? You're an absolute star, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

Slightly weirdly, I only wrote one book review this month.

Since my reviews tend to do as well - if not better - than my other posts, and because I love them, ofc, I try to write at least two a month. (Sometimes one is an Amazon review, but it still counts!)

They do take me quite a while to write though! (Seriously, author people, I put my heart into these things!) This may be why I'm forever trying to work my way through a review backlog 😅

I'll try to get more reviews written in February - but no promises! (Lord knows, that would require organisation of some kind! Lol.)

Here they are, then, my posts from January:

  1. Lol, do you want to write some of my book reviews for me? I am so behind on reviewing that I have to post at least once a week.

  3. I think I'm posting one review a month too because, they do take quite a while to write! so I'm doing more like mini reviews and lumping them together by theme

    1. Fair enough - I do that sometimes, but if I've got an ARC or whatever, I try to do a full review (unless it was a really short graphic novel or something!)

  6. Ha I’m back 😬 I had to say I found your comment about 'blog envy' interesting 😊
I haven’t noticed envy around but I hsve noticed a decrease in humility in a few (very few though) bloggers.
I do think many bloggers are feeling demotivated for different reasons so I think is awesome you always have a kind word for all of us ❤️❤️❤️

    1. (Hopefully I'm not one of the 'decrease in humility' bloggers! Lol.)

Awww, thanks! I try! XD *hugs*

  7. Glad you had a great blogging month! I'm one of those people who's been feeling down about my blog lately :-/ But you're always so sweet <3 That's interesting to me that your reviews get more views since for most bloggers our reviews do the worst compared to other posts. Tell us your secrets! :-P

    1. (I have secret powers, obviously!)

And I have absolutely no freaking clue Kristen, it just seems to work out that way! I like to think it's about the passion, but honestly it's just as likely that people keep getting lost and landing on my blog when they're looking for something else! Lol. If I ever figure it out, I'll let you know! :)

And I don't have to be sweet when blogs are as awesome as yours - just honest!!! :)

  8. Well done on managing to juggle work, blogging and other stuff. Finding the balance between these things is always my greatest challenge. Even though you only wrote one book review, you still beat me because I didn't write any!

    1. I usually suck at balancing that stuff - which was why I was so pleased this month! :)

  9. I'm struggling so much with writing reviews but then am I actually reading so I can write said books? No *cries*. I'm having an awful time trying to balance work, family and blogging. Seriously, I'm considering trademarking An Organized Mess because that's what I am! My goal was to write at least four book reviews a month but honestly at this rate, I'm happy just writing one.

I hope you have an awesome February!!!

  10. I am forever behind with writing reviews. It is just the way things seem to go with me. It is hard to find a balance and I am glad that it worked for you in January. Have a wonderful February!

  11. I think that one well-thought out and well written review is better than rushing through. I am reading middle grade books now and will check out Goodnight, Boy.
