This poem was first published in the publication The Brain Is A Noodle on Medium, in response to the prompt "It'll feel easier in the morning" from the lovely Lucy Dan 蛋小姐.
Dawning
‘Day’s dawning, skin’s crawling
Pure morning
Pure morning’

Sunshine bars bleed into the room
Dôn brings the dawn,
mother of all
Light washes away
nights of
pure exhaustion
(trampled by
the day’s
heavy weight)
Clarity comes with the sun;
A cleared head
— The janitorial
business
of clearing out
the day’s work,
the day’s mess,
the day’s stress —
Takes place while videos
stream dreams
— keep the kid happy,
Like primary school days
‘wet plays’
when the rain logged
the concrete
and the teachers needed
distraction
to bring order
Then finally, finally,
when you can return
to the playground,
out into the cool bright air,
The streaming sunshine
makes everything
feel seamless
and hazy, lazy,
easy.
…right?
👏 I especially like the last stanza and the "hazy, lazy, easy" alliteration.
