Nerd Church - Cut Yourself Some Slack

I'm an impatient person. I want it done 600% right, and I want it done yesterday.

chick chillaxing on some sorta bridge

But I've had to learn that I can't work like that. I can only do what I can do, and it's much better to work slow and steady.

We have a tendency to go way easier on other people than we do on ourselves (me? talk about myself? Ha ha ha... look a distraction!!)

So I think it's time we reminded ourselves that it's ok to not do EVERYTHING - as long as you're doing something.

However small your 'something' may be - that's an achievement.

Believe me - I've been there. Depression etc. sucks hard. I want you to reward your own effort, ok?

So if your 'something' is climbing Everest, fine. But if your 'something' is even considering getting out of bed in the morning - then that's as f**king good as any piece of rock to stand on!

'Would You Destroy Something Perfect, In Order To Make It Beautiful?'

I like to use this My Chemical Romance/Gerard Way quote (which is, in itself, so beautiful,) to remind myself that sometimes it's the imperfect stuff that makes life so special.

I need to stop striving for perfection, and head for beautiful instead. Because perfection is incidental.

I think that's true of everything: perfection is incidental.

What matters is working, slowly and steadily, and figuring out that going easy on yourself isn't such a bad thing after all.

I know it sounds cheesy and oh-so cliché, but it really isn't about the destination - it's about the steps along the way.

So, this was a bit of a ramble - but hopefully you got my point: go easy on yourself. You'll end up getting more done in the long-run.

  1. Thanks for this, Cee! I can tend to be really hard on myself to get things finished, I really needed this today!

  2. I agree we should go easy on ourselves! Hopefully on most people too. Sometimes I'm glad some people have the tendency way easier on other people than we do on themselves because of that "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." we just don't know what other people are going through. The world would be such a better place if we would just be kinder [with ourselves and others] nice ramble as usual <3

  3. PREACH! I am always trying to tell folks (and myselffffff) that doing something is better than doing nothing, so I shouldn't let myself be paralyzed by perfectionism. It's so important to remember. Gotta get better about it.
