I mean... in times of trouble, we should always turn to Stucky.

The world is somehow a little better when Captain America has a boyfriend. Obviously.

...And the most likely boyfriend (hell, the most likely romantic partner full stop #FightMe) for our dear Steve Rogers is Bucky Barnes.

Sorry,  alternative shippers. Your ships have value, but I can't be convinced. 😉

(Fangirling notes:

Stucky - when Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes have a romantic and/or sexual relationship.

Ship - a romantic and/or sexual relation-ship between two characters.

Shippers - people who support a particular Ship. E.g. Stucky Shippers support the romance/sexy-times between Steve and Bucky.)

This week's fic is a 118-page scrumptious piece of awesomeness.

This is an AU where things are more-or-less canon - but with one key difference.

Bucky Barnes is a non-superhero, and isn't from the WW2 era like Steve. Instead, our boy Bucky works as a nurse - though he still has the metal arm, due to a motorbike accident as a teenager.

(Fangirling notes:

AU (Alternate Universe) - This uses characters and/or elements of the source material, but doesn't take place in the exact rules and circumstances of that world.

Canon - the stuff that actually happens, and is accepted lore, in the source material (the books, TV series, films, etc.)

This same motorbike accident leaves this fic's version of Bucky with neurological problems.

He has trouble remembering things, and also has Anxiety (though it's not clear whether the Anxiety is related to the head trauma, it's certainly exacerbated by his forgetting things.)

And this is part of the true awesomeness of this fic - cos Bucky struggles, yeah, but his problems never define him.

Despite his neurological and mental health problems, this Bucky got through his qualifications, and is a damn good nurse.

(Well... the medical detail is probably a little off, but no more so than Hollywood in general.

Side note: never remove a knife from someone's abdomen without a full surgical team on standby, unless there really is no other option. If you're in a fully-stocked, fully-staffed, hospital, there is another option.)

The other thing I love-love-loved about this fic was the superhero/non-superhero relationship dynamic.

It could have been done (and good Lord, I've seen it done...) so badly - but it wasn't.

Hear that? This fic managed to take a non-superhero Bucky, and a superhero-Steve, and make it work! 😍😍😍

OK, so this fic is actually heavier on the fluff than the angst, but there's still a few things I need to give warnings for (stay safe dearest nerdlets!):

- serious injury and blood
- Anxiety
- Anxiety attacks (some low-to-mid-level graphic)
- memory problems
- reference to motorbike accident
- father issues
- abandonment issues
- being a fugitive
- references to violence and torture
- controlling behaviour from a romantic partner
- trauma related to Coming Out
- self-blaming
- references to sexy-times

It also randomly has SPOILERS for Harry Potter *shrugs* - Idk why - and possibly Stranger Things, but I don't watch that *gasps* so I don't know what counts as a spoiler.

I guess it also sort of has SPOILERS for the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) up to Captain America: Civil War - but because of the canon divergence and the Alternate Universe, most of the details have changed at least slightly.

This week's fic, then, is:

  1. I’m not too sure which superheroes I would like to see without powers. At first I thought Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, but he very much is an average teenager already. Although, I would love a cheesy teen movie of just him and his friends going through everyday life.

    1. Ha, it would be great to have a cheesy teen movie where he's *still* spider-man though - y'know, the focus is on the day-to-day stuff, and every so often he's just like... I uh... have to go to the bathroom! (Which is the excuse Danny Phantom used to use! Man, I loved that cartoon! Lol.)
