Comics Wrap-Up - Please Forgive Me, I've Got Demons in My Head

'Comics Wrap-Up' with lined-notebook-style background and speech bubbles containing heart symbols

It's Thursday, it's July 2021, let's get some comics-y superhero-y goodness!

Film Trailers

New Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer!

Again, this isn't a character I know much of, but this film looks super-awesome!

TV Shows

Episode 3 of Loki was my favourite so far!

Once again, this is a SPOILER-free zone, but if it's shown up in a trailer, I consider it fair game, OK? OK.

Oh, and general reminder: Queer IDs are not SPOILERS.

I think I enjoyed this episode so much because they allowed the characters to do the talking -

(metaphorically - they're always the ones talking literally...)

- and let the time-travel f**kery deal with itself.

And despite the fact that this episode was v. much character-driven (which is in no way a bad thing,) there was still enough action and plot to keep things moving.

Basically, I want Loki and Sylvie (the name of our Lady Loki, apparently, which does make the logistics easier,) to take point in this series.

Don't get me wrong, Owen Wilson is awesome as Mobius, but he's kind of restricted by the whole *waves hands vaguely* set-up of the TVA.

And Tom Hiddleston singing and, well, basically feasting, is something I want more of, Marvel, just in case you were wondering.

Now, the most important part: LOKI IS CONFIRMED AS CANONICALLY QUEER!

And thank f**k for that. Because it's about time Marvel did the bare goddamn minimum of pulling the MCU into line with the comics.

Loki in the comics? Has been Queer for years.

I also loved the casual way it was done.

Like, see, Marvel - was that so freaking hard?!

After all the Queerbaiting in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS,) put us through, the ease with which this was done should show you something.

See? It really is ridiculously easy to do the bare goddamn minimum in allowing your Queer characters to actually be Queer.

*breathes deeply*

...OK, I feel better now 😅😎

Also, playing Hayley Kiyoko as the opening song?

Well played Marvel, well played, bringing in a Lesbian Jesus* soundtrack to soften up the Gays™ (it worked, btw 😍)

*Lesbian Jesus is the fan name for Hayley Kiyoko, I didn't come up with it, so don't @ me 😅

Marvel exec #1: How many different aspects of Loki's character do you wanna touch on in this episode?

Marvel exec #2: ...yes.

  1. Aaa I need to catch up on Loki! Falcon and Winter Soldier was so disappointing (despite my love for the characters) that I wasn't feeling super motivated to dive into Loki, but I think I've heard enough glowing things about it by now to merit giving it a go.

    1. I adored TFATWS, but the Queerbaiting was a sore spot *sighs*. Loki's been pretty good so far - like I said, I *loved* ep 3 - and, like I said, Marvel have finally done the bare goddamn minimum :)

  2. I was so thrilled when I heard Loki say: "a little bit of both." I couldn't wait to hear your reaction too! It was such an amazing moment especially for the MCU, and I only hope we see more of it.
