Comics Wrap-Up - I Don't Really Feel Like Fighting

'Comics Wrap-Up' with lined-notebook-style background and speech bubbles containing heart symbols

It's Thursday, it's February, this is Dora Reads - let's get some comics-y superhero-y goodness!

Film Trailers

Another The Batman trailer/scene/whatever the PR folks are releasing these days!

Without the context of the rest of the film around it, it just pretty much confirms what we all know: if people can afford to, they should definitely move out of Gotham.

The chances of being attacked and/or killed by a literal supervillain are just too high, let's face it.

Also, for some reason I love how emo-awkward Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) is in this clip! Probably because I am an awakward li'l emo child, let's be honest! Lol.

Warning: flashing images, funeral/grief, abduction, car crashes, general violence including explosives

Other Stuff

The big graphic novel story this week was the banning of Maus by Art Spiegelman in a school district in Tennessee* for fairly spurious reasons (imho.)

Maus is a graphic novel/memoir about the author's family's experiences of the Holocaust.

I'm happy to say that it's now selling a lot of copies.

I spoke partly about Maus, in the wider context of the Holocaust, in this week's Nerd Church post, titled 'Of Monsters, Mice, and Men'

*Link CW: discussions of the Holocaust and suicide

And to end, as is traditional, with some shameless self-promo, last week's Friday Fics Fix talked superhero missing fics!

What do you think of The Batman thingummy?

If you lived in Gotham, would you move? 😅

  1. I'll have to check out that Book Riot list! I've read a few graphic novels by Indigenous authors, but of course, I'm always looking for more recommendations :)
