Comics Wrap-Up - No-one's Around To Judge Me

'Comics Wrap-Up' with lined-notebook-style background and speech bubbles containing heart symbols

It's Thursday, I'm very tired, but we've got lots of comics-y superhero-y goodness, so let's get to it!

TV Trailers

How can 18 seconds mean so much?!

Netflix have given us our first teeny-tiny taste of season 3 of The Umbrella Academy (TUA) - and a date! (June 22)

Sparrows. Sparrows. Sparrows!

(I'm so pumped!)

Warning: jump-cut editing which may mimic the affect of flashing images, implied impending violence

OMG we have our first Ms Marvel trailer! Woo!

This looks like so much fun and all sorts of degrees of awesomeness! I'm loving the whole vibe in this trailer - bouncy, fun, and brightly-coloured!

Warning: flashing images, mild violence

Another trailer for Moon Knight!

Argh! This looks so good. It's actually worrying me how good this looks - because I don't wanna raise my expectations and then be disappointed, y'know?

I just hope the series turns out as awesome as it looks, cos I love Moon Knight as a hero.

Warning: flashing images, violence, car accidents, mental health problems

Other Stuff

Sony have released the first 10 minutes of Spider-Man: No Way Home as an extended preview, seeing as how the film's now available for various home-viewing-ness.

I didn't know whether to put this in this section - but it's my blog so I figured why not. 😅

I love that this picks up immediately (and I mean immediately,) after Far From Home.

It's also a lot of fun and covers a lot of ground given that it's literally ten minutes - I'm totes looking forward to seeing the rest!

(Also, yes, that's Daredevil in the thumbnail - because the MCU assumes you can just pick this sh** up now like comic book fans have been doing for decades 😅)

Warning: flashing images; SPOILERS for previous MCU films (especially Spider-Man: Far From Home); mild violence; references to murder; arrest and interrogation; harrassment by the media; references to sexy-times/adult humour

It turns out that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler - who, yes, is a Black man (yes, it's a relevant detail,) - was arrested in January for trying to withdraw money from his own bank account.

He handed the teller a note with instructions for withdrawing the money, and they assumed he was robbing the place.

The note made CLEAR that this was his money - it literally said 'from my checking account.' He can't steal money from his own account. It's his money.

So the assumption was made that a Black man trying to withdraw a large sum of money must be robbing the place. Smh.

A US 'parents group' is clutching their collective pearls over the Netflix Marvel shows being given a streaming home on Disney+.

Because it apparently would not be family friendly. Despite Disney+ planning on adding parental controls and age ratings.

When I saw this I outright laughed. 😂😂😂

Why? Well because Disney+ in the UK already has 15+ and 18+ content, dearest nerdlets. No fuss - we just have it. I've been watching Pam & Tommy on there for a while now.

We don't have Hulu here, so a bunch of Hulu and FX stuff is on Disney+'s Star service. The parental controls, as far as I'm aware, work fine - in fact I had to change my older brother's (since I'm the account holder) so that he could watch Star Wars.

So the little darlings will be fine. You might have to actively parent them and you won't be able to control what other people's kids see but... oh, wait. I see it now. 💅

Following the success of the Loki series on Disney+, the uber-popular Alligator Loki (or, to give him his superior name, Croki) is getting his own comics series

Check out Gin Jenny @ Reading the End's review of graphic novel Wingbearer by Marjorie Liu and Teny Aida Issakhanian

And to end, as is traditional, with some shameless self-promo: last week's Friday Fics Fix featured a The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS) fic where Sam is the very last person to know that he's in a relationship with Bucky.

What's your take on the new trailers?

Which series are you most excited for?

  1. There's lots to talk about here! I'm pumped for Umbrella Academy season three! I finished the two seasons so quick and I am craving another one. Also, I can't wait to see Elliot Page again! It's great that now he gets to act while also being his true self.

I am so excited too for the Ms. Marvel tv show. I just did a presentation on it in my superhero class, and it's such a coincidence that the trailer came shortly after. It's great to see a really upbeat, youthful Marvel show. I'm very excited indeed.

Currently, I'm watching Jessica Jones for said superhero class. I like it! I like how Marvel has a good range of gritty, dark shows and then more brighter, younger shows. It shows range, and I have no problem with Disney Plus showing it all.

    1. Lol, there was a lot of comics stuff going on this week!

Argh! TUA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *descends into fangirling noises*

Ms Marvel looks totally awesome - and given that Ms Marvel is literally Marvel's best selling trade of the past however-many years, it really is a no-brainer to bring her into the MCU :)

I haven't actually gotten around to the Marvel Netflix shows, but it just made me laugh that the UK version of Disney+ has *so* much stuff... we literally have Family Guy and horror films on there... and that group were worried about superhero shows??? The parental controls are fine! Lol.
