Comics Wrap-Up - Poor Fishy!

'Comics Wrap-Up' title image with lined-notebook-style background and speech bubbles containing heart symbols

It's Thursday, I am very tired, let's get some superhero-y comics-y goodness!

Film Trailers

Some more trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness!

What If..? fans are all sat here smug af still 😉😅

Warning: FLASHING IMAGES, possible SPOILERS for previous MCU things (who even knows any more,) horror elements, general violence

TV Shows

Warning: this section briefly discusses mental health problems and ritualistic self-harm.

There's a non-SPOILER section to start, and a brief SPOILER section at the end, which will be clearly marked.

Moon Knight episode 1...

Wow.

I love the way this episode captured the sweet spot between the batpoop side of Moon Knight, and the dark, gritty, side of Moon Knight.

Like, it felt like we got the balance right in this episode, and I hope it continues in subsequent episodes.

(Because, as I've mentioned before, I freaking love both aspects of Moon Knight!)

I'm also loving the horror elements that we saw in the trailers etc. - so awesome.

I do need someone to hug Steven Grant. So badly.

His poor little face!

He's just this adorkable sweet nerd whose entire world is imploding right now - someone hug him dammit!!!!

Also, Oscar Isaac's British (English) accent is really good.

He's got the figures of speech and everything.

The rest of the British characters/extras though are your stereotypical one-of-two-accents that the Americans think all of us sound like - either super-posh Queen's English, or East End Cockney.

And don't get me wrong - those people exist! Especially in London.

But London - a city, which attracts people from all over the country and, in fact, all over the world - would have a huge variation in accents. Not just the two.

Oscar Isaac's is more outside London, and I appreciated that.

From what I can see, as an outsider, the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) aspects seemed to be well done.

If anyone has any links to DID #OwnVoices reviews or discussions, please let me know!

Also - and this isn't a spoiler because it's literally in the first minute: WTF is up with that opening scene Marvel?

We're gonna start with ritualistic self-harm, and not warn anyone? ...Not really good enough, Marvel, not gonna lie.

Especially given that a lot of this series is mental-health-based, your audience could've done with a heads-up on that one. Smh.

SPOILERS!!!!

Moving tattoos are never a good sign, right?

Like, waking up in a foreign town with a dude whose tattoo moves is de facto an 'I'm out' situation, right? 😅

Side-note: there's something exceptionally magical about the museum security guard loving otter videos.

I love it. So much.

And the poor fishy!

And poor Steven just wants his OG fish buddy back!!! So sad 😢😅

Generally speaking, Steven had so much cr*p to put up with in this episode - and I have a feeling things aren't gonna get easier any time soon!

BTW, the cake van/I have no licence thing gave me mahoosive The Umbrella Academy vibes

 - y'know, with Klaus and the ice-cream van, lol! 😅😂

END SPOILERS!!!!

Other Stuff

Elliot Page has revealed that his character in series 3 of The Umbrella Academy (TUA) will be Viktor Hargreeves.

This is not a time-travel-shenanigans alternate or whatever, it's the original character, Transitioning to male.

I'm fine with whatever they'd decided to do - let Viktor transition? Awesome. Keep the character as he was previously? Also awesome. Do something else entirely? Fine by me.

So long as Page's happy, I'm good.

I'm sure it'll be done well - and I can't wait for series 3 of TUA!

Over on Medium, I explained that Superman's biggest weakness isn't Kryptonite, or you can see that same shocking conclusion in last week's CWU post here.

Last week's Friday Fics Fix talked fanfiction featuring Tony Stark and Loki (FrostIron) in a comic-book style

  1. I'm happy to get to hear your thoughts on Moon Knight! I though Oscar's accent was really good... although I don't have much evidence to go off of lol. But I think he's a great actor and his mannerisms seem really good. He plays such a sweet little cinnamon roll and I do just wish the best for Steven.

I'm really happy for Viktor Hargreeves. Like you, I would've been fine with whatever Page wanted to do with the character. But hey, if we get more trans representation in tv shows and played by trans actors, then it's a win!

    1. I really need someone to hug Steven. Poor sweet fishy-loving boy! Lol. Yeah, his accent's really good - he doesn't lean into stereotypes etc. like a lot of people do. And he's the only British character with an outside-London accent! Lol.

Yes! Totally happy for both Elliot and Viktor! XD <3
