Nerd Church - Entropy

Sometimes you just need to take things a step at a time.

Sometimes it's just about putting that one metaphorical foot in front of the other - not doing too much, not trying too hard.

Just. Keeping. Steady.

Title: Entropy

Because in a universe that tends towards entropy, stasis is progress.

Entropy, just to letcha know, is a scientific concept/rule...

Disclaimer: I'm not a scientist. I'm a chick with a blog; nothing more, nothing less.

It means different things in different parts of science-land -

(that's what it's called now, I have decided,)

- but without going into a bunch of different formulae and technical doodahs -

(which I am probably not qualified to explain, and, more importantly, I don't want to,)

- the basics boil down to entropy = disorder and/or decay. Sometimes also chaos, since the line between disorder and chaos is kinda funny at best.

Entropy is the abstract force that makes things 'wear out' - metal rusts, plants rot, stuff breaks.

It's also the force that will eventually lead to the heat death of the universe, because why not?

From the moment it is produced or created, everything begins to be affected by entropy - albeit so slowly, for the most part, that human beings won't be able to measure it.

OK, this is the part where I depart from purely semi-accurate science, and instead combine it with my own... quirky... personal brand of philosophy.

(Feel free to run far and fast, and a reminder that I am not a scientist. ๐Ÿ˜…)

We are constantly fighting entropy.

We might not know it, but we are.

Everything we put in order, the universe immediately starts messing up again.

So stopping that? Even by simply stopping the decay and maintaining the status quo?

That's some powerful stuff, right there.

Sometimes you gotta metaphorically run, hard, just to stand still - and it's frustrating, I know, but it's OK.

Becuase it's still an achievement.

It's actual a victory against one of the fundamental laws of the universe. So, y'know, check you out! ๐Ÿ˜…

(And please don't beat yourself up if you can't stop things from falling apart - you're not gonna win every battle against such a vast opponent, and, for what it counts, I'm proud of you just for trying ๐Ÿ’–.)

Nerd Church is going on break, and will be back on 14th January 2024

Did that make any sense?

  1. My entire life is just chaos management. If nothing breaks and nobody dies, I'm having a good day. :)

Now that you make me think about it...๐Ÿ˜ญ

"Sometimes you gotta metaphorically run, hard, just to stand still - and it's frustrating, I know, but it's OK."
Maybe I should start running then...because I've been sitting on my butt for a while, and I think I'm beginning to disintegrate...
