Poetry: Sweet Decay

This poem was first published on Medium.

Warning: This poem talks about death, including child death, and graveyards.

Honestly, I have no idea what corner of my brain this came from.
😅

Sweet Decay

‘Just like a crow chasing the butterfly
dandelions lost in the summer sky’

— Shinedown, The Crow And The Butterfly

Title: Sweet Decay. Sub-title: A Poem by Cee Rhiannon. Images: Victorian-scrapbook-style flowers and butterflies

Gravestones
big as doors
line the paths;
Bearing the names
of children
long past

The smell of grass,
the buzz of bees
and sweet decay
beneath the trees
