'The mirth drains from his eyes, his face. Lowering his mug, his eyes following it, Sherlock asks, “What if your worst days are your fault, and only yours? Would you deserve it then?”'

Ready for some semi*-emotionally-healthy BBC Sherlock fanfiction?

Well, whether you are or not, that's what you're getting. 😛😉

*Look, it's emotionally healthy compared to the series, but there's still a sh**-tonne of co-dependency and poor coping mechanisms, ok?

This fic sees John and Sherlock opening up about their nightmares - of which there are many, because these boys have been through some sh**.

And as they open up to each other they find themselves growing closer.

(Will this turn into smoochy M/M Johnlock-type-stuff? A bit, yeah. But we all love some smoochy M/M 💋 right?

I'm in a slightly strange mood ...It's been a long week!)

Their nightmares are heavily based in the plot of the few episodes of Sherlock which Moffat and Gatiss have seen fit to grace us with, so consider this your SPOILER warning.

(Fangirling notes: Johnlock is a romantic-al and/or sexual relationship between Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.)

Now for the bad news: it's first person Point of View (POV) for Sherlock and John 😮

Sherlock (Benedryl Cumbersome): Oh, for God's sakes!

I know, I know, while first person POV in original fiction is a matter of tatste, first person POV in fics is like kryptonite and/or kindling to the fanpeople and their bonfires* - BUT, honestly, it's done in a way that didn't bother me.

*...I have no idea where this bizarre conglomerate of metaphors** came from. I can only apologise 😅

**...I talk like a 19th Century dictionary and babble when I'm tired - sorry! Like I said, it's been a long week!

It's heavy on the angst, dearest nerdlets (though with much hurt/comfort.) So be aware of the following:

- nightmares

- PTSD-like symptoms

References to:

- torture

- trauma

- physical assault

- substance abuse and addiction

- poor-quality mental health care

- general violence, including guns

- suicide and suicidal thoughts

(Fangirling notes: Hurt/Comfort (H/C) is a genre of fanfiction in which characters comfort each other. Which, y'know, pretty much does what it says on the tin.)

Still, if you are OK with those things, and don't mind first person POV, I do  rec. this - I really enjoyed it.

This week's fic, then, is:

Naming the Nightmares by OmalleyMeetsTibbs

First person POVs - can you deal with them in fanfiction? Or are you about to yell at me? 😅

Talk to me! 😊💬

  1. I don’t read much fanfiction so I can’t really comment on 1st person POV in fanfiction, but I say use whatever POV you want! I am notorious for using all the POVs in my writing haha! Sometimes you just want to switch it up.

    1. Ha, it's... an issue in fanfiction. Lol. I think maybe it's because they aren't original characters, so the reader already has an idea of how the character thinks - and the reader's idea isn't necessarily the same as the fic writer's!
