Friday Fics Fix - Peter Parker Is Not OK

'Peter didn’t remind Mr. Stark of their plans, not after lunch, not after dinner and not when they were all sitting (or rather lying) in front of the TV later that evening.'

Fanfiction can make you laugh, make you cry, or make you go AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

...We're dealing with the third option here.

The kind of option where the feels are so complex that AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! is pretty much the best  descriptor available to you.

 (Fangirling notes:

Feels = intense and fandom-provoked emotions.)

This fic is about Peter Parker and Tony Stark having a father/son relationship - because I love fics with that theme - and also deals a lot with mental health and physical health problems in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Even though this is canon divergence, there are definitely SPOILERS for Infinity War and Endgame in this fic.

SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS!!!!!!

SPOILERS, ok? Great.

(Fangirling notes:

Canon divergence - stays with the canon (i.e. 'official' part of the media,) up to a point, but then changes details and/or direction.)

The mental health problems here - possibly PTSD, possibly Depression/Anxiety, it's never formally mentioned* - are written so goddamn well!

Like, yes! I know these feelings! Argh! THIS is the kind of cr*p that can go through your head sometimes!

(Be careful and be aware of the Content Warnings (below) and tags on the fic, dearest nerdlets, because Peter's headspace is all sorts of messed up here.)

*within the fic itself - the tags describe it as PTSD. The symptoms portrayed could fit either condition.

And it's generally well-written!

You know I LOVE well-written fanfiction! 😁

OK, as mentioned, this fic deals with some serious stuff, so here's your Content Warnings:

- serious mental health problems, expressed as:
  • panic attacks (GRAPHIC and believable)
  • suicidal ideation
  • being passively suicidal
  • guilt and shame
  • not wanting to be a burden
  • excessive tiredness/exhaustion, and inability of the body to correctly regulate temperature (can't get warm.)
  • numbing/fuzzing of emotions and/or pleasure
  • insomnia
- descriptions of alcohol addiction/alcohol abuse
- grief and bereavement
- knock-on emotional/mental effects of sudden serious physical impairments
- family issues
- abandonment issues

Stay safe dearest nerdlets!

This week's fic, then, is:

Is there anything that makes you go: 'AHHHHHHHH!'?
Do you know of any other fics with well-written mental health problems? *grabby hands*

  1. I feel like a lot of the books I've been reading recently have made me go AHHHH. But, in a great way.
