Friday Fics Fix - The Falcon, The Winter Soldier, and Healthy Coping Mechanisms

'“Look at me and tell me this doesn’t look like an accomplished person to you!” Sam was holding a giant teddy bear in his arms.'

'Fics Fix!' with purple background and white lightning bolt shape

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS) series means these characters are both living in my head rent-free.

Depending on what happens in the finale (released today!) we might all need the smooshy mental-health-based comfort of this fic.

(Which comes complete with a slight dose of angst, because despite my apparent adulthood, I am a smol emo child, and you all know this.)

Plus, plus, plus! It's well written!

Y'know I will always and forever rec. the well-written fics. It is a thing that I am gonna do wherever I may find them.

The characterisation and weaving in of the themes here blends in perfectly with the tone and content of the series.

Which is pretty impressive, tbh.

And it has Zemo being Zemo, complete with obligatory drink-in-hand.

If you've not yet seen TFATWS, and have only experienced Baron Helmut Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, you may not understand why that's a good thing.

Trust me, you're in for a treat. Zemo being Zemo in TFATWS is a thing of sassy, slightly tipsy, majesty.

As mentioned, like TFATWS in general, this fic gives a big ole 'f**k you' to toxic masculinity and mental health stigma.

It's good to talk, dearest nerdlets.

It's both good and oh-so difficult to talk and to be vulnerable and to allow people to help you and to accept that the things that you need are often the things that you feel make you weak - like a teddy bear.

But they don't make you weak. You are strong, my dearest nerdlets, things that bring you joy and comfort without harming you make you strong, please don't forget that.

Like I said, this fic discusses mental health issues.

It also references abuse and past trauma, so take care, k?

It also has mild SPOILERS, ok? SPOILERS.

This week's fic, then, is:

Are you a fan of Zemo being Zemo?

Do you think more shows need to tackle mental health issues in a healthy way?

(Yes, that's a leading question, I don't care.)

Talk to me! 😀💬

  1. Of course more shows should tackle mental health! And it's even more important for shows to portray men dealing with mental health issues. There is such a stigma even in my own family that men do not seek help for mental illness. It annoys me so much that this is an issue and I'm glad TFATWS is addressing it.
