Friday Fics Fix - Dealing With The Stabby Teenager In Your Kitchen

'“Who is he?” Clint asks.

Sam shrugs his shoulders. “I don't know. He broke in, only thing he's really said is Steve's name.”'

 

I love fanfiction AUs.

AUs can be an incredible way for fic authors to play around with the characters and situations involved in the canon.

...and the best AUs are often the least fantastical.

(Fandom notes:

AUs = Alternate Universes.

Canon = the 'official' stuff in the book/film/whatever)

This week's fic is a Marvel fic (woo! I am trash!) based in a modern/non-super-powered/in-college AU.

...But it's far from tame.

Basically, Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers used to be foster brothers, until they lost touch and Steve heard that Bucky passed away.

Bucky had not passed away.

And now, at the worst possible time cos Steve's out of town, there's a bleeding teenager with a knife in Sam and Steve's kitchen.

Most of the fic is Sam, Clint, and Nat, trying to deal with the aforesaid traumatised stabby-teenager while Steve tries to get various buses and trains across the country to get home.

...I couldn't stop reading it.

It's brilliant, on that emotional, 'gimme more' level.

I haven't read the sequel that the author's written, but I 6000% am going to!!!!

There's a fair amount of spelling and grammar issues - 

not the worst I've ever seen in fanfiction (good Lord, far from the worst,) but enough for me to mention it, cos it will put some readers off.

And a few Content Warnings to be aware of:

- injury

- blood

- violence

- car accidents

- child abuse

- people trafficking

- disability and ableism

- PTSD-like symptoms

- reformatory school abuse

...it's entirely possible I've missed something with this one, because there was so much going on, so please be careful!
