One of the extremely few issues I have with The Umbrella Academy (TUA) is that the Hargreeves siblings are so emotionally constipated that we never get to bathe in the angst with them.
Like - I'm talking 'Gerard Way in the video for Ghost of You' style angst-bathing. We don't get much of that, and my emo goblin spaghetti brain would very much like that. *nods sagely*
...Which is all my way of explaining that this week's fic is an angsty TUA fic that allows the Hargreeves(eses) to spend just a little bit of time in their feelings.
Just a smidge - more than that might kill them, let's be honest. 😅
So this is canon divergence from after the end of series 2 (but Viktor still has the correct name and pronouns.)
(Some SPOILERS from this point, OK? SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- instead of starting at series 3, we feel the affects of Klaus' grief from losing Ben, and how that affects both him and everyone else.
...There's actually a lot of Diego, in particular, in this fic.
(Fandom notes:
Canon is the 'official' stuff in the book/film/whatever.
Canon divergence is where we follow canon to a certain point, and then veer off (diverge, if you will,) from the path taken in canon.)

It's not a long fic, but it is well-written, so...
...there are rules, dearest nerdlets. If it's a well-written fic, I must rec - so the fandom gods decree 😎😅
What I really like about it is it's not like -
*sits down on backwards chair Captain America style-y* - So, you're feeling some grief.
- it's altogether more TUA about it than that, while also being just emotionally intelligent enough to actually be satisfying.

- passive suicidality
- disrupted sleeping and eating
- family issues (b/c Umbrella Academy)
