Nerd Church - A Letter To My Younger Self
(Warning: this post contains references to suicidal thoughts and feelings, as well as brief references to grief, depression, abusive/toxic friendships, and the general randomness of my life.)
I'd been thinking of doing one of these things for a while - y'know the 'Hi little 15-year-old Cee, this is the advice I'd give you!' kind of things.
Then, between my birthday on Friday (no, I'm not telling you how old I am - it ain't happening,) and reading blogpost ideas by Jemma @ Dorkface, which suggested writing a letter to your younger self, I was like - IT'S A SIGN!!!!!!!!!*
*Yes, there was coffee. Also, my parents are hippies.

Friday Fics Fix - Birthday!
It's my birthday today!!!! (Woo!)
That means, under the rules of birthdays, I'm allowed to pick a totally self-indulgent fic for this week's post. That may be unfair, but I don't make the rules*
*OK, I do - but that's because it's my birthday! (That's one of the rules!)

Micropoetry - August 2017
I wrote three pieces of micropoetry in August, and somehow they seem a little... different to what I usually write...?
I think I like them though - they're strong (if I do say so myself, lol.)
Whether they're good is another question; decide for yourself:

Nerd Church - How To Disagree With Someone Without Being a Jerk
(Warning: this post contains jerky/not smooth-moving gifs which may effect people with photosensitive conditions.)
(Warning: this post contains references to bigotry and Nazis.)
The only person you're ever going to 100% agree with all of the time is yourself - and if you're anything like me, that doesn't always work either.

The only person you're ever going to 100% agree with all of the time is yourself - and if you're anything like me, that doesn't always work either.
So sometimes, you're gonna disagree with people you like (not to mention the people you don't like,) over big things and little things alike.

Month in Review(s) - August 2017
August. Yeah, August...
August, for me, was stressful.
My 88-year-old grandfather was very unwell and ended up in hospital, he's better now but we still have to do a lot to make sure he and my grandmother are safe, happy, and as healthy as they can be.

Nerd Church - Holding Up The Sky With A Teaspoon

Friday Fics Fix - You're Guaranteed To Run This Town
The Da Vinci Code controversy seems so long ago, doesn't it?
How quaint that the early-to-mid noughties were so full of debate over a mediocre thriller plot. Why did people care so much over whether Jesus ever had a wife and/or child?

Comics Wrap-Up - Miss Atomic Bomb
Film Trailers and Films
I'm actually gonna give you some slightly older trailers for two based-on-comics films I've seen over the past two weeks*
*Yes, two films in two weeks. I bought a year cinema pass, so I literally go there every week; after the first 20 films, it's paid for itself.
And I've seen like 24 or 25 now. If you're a movie fan, maybe look at similar deals where you are? #BudgetTipsWithCee - lol! ;)

Friday Fics Fix - Flash-Back
This week I have a fic for you from DC's Flash series.
It's cute, it's fluffy, but it's also quite hard-hitting.
Yes, hard-hitting and fluffy. At the same time. Fanfic writers are gonna save the world my dearest nerdlets! 😎

Nerd Church - 6 Tips For Staying Productive While Feeling Cruddy
It's always the same.
You've got a deadline; work to do; bills to pay. And you've managed to catch a cold or some other annoying buggle* at the exact wrong moment.
This week I have a pretty awful virus of some type. And I feel like crud. But I work for myself and money doesn't grow on trees (...or so they tell me; I'm gonna find that money tree one day dammit!)
*yes, I refer to viruses as 'buggles.' Blame my mother. Honestly.

Friday Fics Fix - Aristotle and Dante Appear In Fanfiction
This week, I've been reading some YA fanfiction.
Most of the fanfiction I read is actually TV/movie-based (maybe because a lot of the fanfiction out there in internet-land is based on TVs and movies stuffs! Lol.)
I figured I'd read some book-based fics for once. What with this being a book blog and all that jazz.

Friday Fics Fix - THIS is Cap
Fanfiction is going to save the goddamn world.
The horrendous moves made this week against the rights of American people - especially transgender Americans - is yet another reminder that the world needs to keep fighting.
The world needs to remember that bigotry, fascism, and hatred are NEVER going to be the way forward.
The world needs to remember that Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, will never be a goddamn f**king Nazi!

Comics Wrap-Up - Heroes Always Get Remembered
Lots of stuff for you this week! The big companies always release lots of goodies @ San Diego Comic Con (SDCC,) so we've got some fab new trailers: a selection of which I've given you here.
There's also some other stuff that I've come across in my comics-y web-wanderings, as per usual :)

Nerd Church - Losing Chester
(Warning: this posts
contains discussions of suicide – specifically that of Chester
Bennington - mental health problems, and grief; it also mentions addiction problems and child
sexual abuse.)
First of all guys, if you
need help with mental health stuff, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE IN A BAD
PLACE RIGHT NOW, there are links to helplines and resources at the end of this post.
You are valuable, you are
valid, and we want you here.
The news of the death of Chester Bennington - the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park - was a big and painful shock to his fans.
I cried. And I wasn't the
only one.

Friday Fics Fix - You Zigged When You Should've Zagged
One of the most wonderful things about fanfiction is that it asks, again and again, 'What If...?'
This can mean explorations of anything, from looking at characters in a different light, to alternate universes, to changes of plot-point.

Comics Wrap-Up - Least the Ones That I Got Away With
All the good sh** from comics-land is being held back until San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC.)
So my news is a little thin on the ground this week, but still delivered with a smile :)
Everything also comes under the 'Other Stuff' category, because... well, I blame Loki. It's usually his fault.

The Real Neat Blog Award
The Rules:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to them.
The lovely Emily @ The Paperback Princess tagged me to do this post waaaaay back in September 2016, because I'm woefully behind on tag posts.
*shrugs* Meh. I'll get to 'em when I get to 'em!
Thanks Em! :)
(Also, expect much question-dodging - if I was a politician and/or not so inclined to give the frank and brutal truth, I'd be dangerous.)

Nerd Church - Redefine Success
What do you call success? Millions of pounds/dollars/insert-currency-here? A sports car? A mansion? Fame and fortune?
Welp, f**k that!
No. I mean it.
You can take your f**king drafty mansions and your privacy-violating levels of fame, and stick them where the ever-loving sun is hesitant to shine.*
*I haven't even had coffee. I don't even. Just go with it.

Friday Fics Fix - Fanfiction in Koru Mag
Do you want to read a whooooole magazine issue inspired by fanfiction and fan art and all that jazz, including a fic by your dear darling book nerd (i.e. me)?
Of course you do! Why in hell's name wouldn't you?!*
*Don't answer that.

Nerd Church - Victims of the System
(Warning: this post discusses a child killing case from the UK committed by a mentally ill teenager, and issues surrounding this such as stigma and failings in mental health care.)
Diminished Responsibility is a defence in English and Welsh law.
It means that the person who has committed the crime is not in control of their own actions, and is usually used in mental health-related circumstances.
At the same time it recognises that there is some responsibility on the part of the person committing the crimes - if only that they did not take all reasonable precautions to prevent this or a similar situation from occurring.

Month in Review(s) - June 2017
June was too damned hot here in the UK.
It regularly reached over 28C, & often over 30C. I officially melt at around 23.5C, so I was NOT happy.
